Hinubaran ng welterweight world title ng WBO ang pound-for-pound king na si Floyd Mayweather dahil sa kabiguan nitong sundin ang mga alituntunin nito.
Nakamit ni Mayweather ang welterweight title nang matalo nito sa puntos si Manny Pacquiao sa kanilang laban noong nagdaang ika-2 ng Mayo ng taong kasalukuyan.
Batay sa rules ng WBO, kailangang bitiwan ni Mayweather ang dalawa pang junior middleweight title na hawak nito. Sa resolusyon ng WBO, nakalagay na wala ng ibang alternatibo ang world championship committee kundi alisan ang welterweight title kay Mayweather.
Binigyan ng deadline ng WBO si Mayweather ngunit binalewala niya ito. Nagtapos ang deadline nitong Biyernes. Si Mayweather ay pinagbabayad din ng $200,000 bilang sanction fee sa laban nito kay Pacquiao noong Mayo.
Sa resolusyon din ng WBO ay binigyang diin ang pagkilala sa kakayanan at galing ni Mayweather bilang boksingero ngunit kailangan anilang ipatupad ang alituntunin ng naturang organisasyon.”The WBO has the utmost respect for Floyd Mayweather Jr. and all that he has accomplished during his storied career. Mr. Mayweather has always agreed with and understood that world championships have both privileges and responsibilities and that status as WBO champion is subject to and conditioned on compliance with the WBO rules and regulations.”
