Dating Chairman Brillantes binigyang pugay ng Comelec

Inalala ng Commission on Elections (Comelec) si dating Chairman Sixto Brillantes na pumanaw kaninang umaga.

Ayon sa pahayag ng Comelec sinabi nito na ang buong Comelec family at nagluluksa sa pagyao ni Chairman Brillantes na nakatakda sanang magdiwang ng kanyang ika-81 taong kaarawan sa Biyernes, August 14.

Nagpa-abot din ang komisyon ng pakikiramay at pagdadalamhati sa mga naulila ng kanilang dating pinuno.

Sabi ng Comelec, iniwan ni Chairman Brillantes ang pagiging election lawyer matapos hirangin ni dating Pangulong Benigno Aquino III bilang Comelec Chairman noong January 16, 2011.

Bilang chairman ng komisyon, pinangasiwaan nito ang matagumpay na 2013 National and Local Elections kung saan naging instrumento sa pagkakaroon ng transparency measures sa automated elections na nagagamit pa rin ngayon.

Pahayag ng Comelec, isang dedicated advocate for electoral management reform, strengthening and empowering the Campaign Finance Office si Brillantes kung saan kailangang managot ang mga kandidato sa kanilang mga campaign spending.

Dagdag ng Comelec, bilang isang tagapagtanggol ng integridad ng komisyon isinulong ni Brillantes ang pagpapanagot sa mga nagsusulong upang mawala ang public confidence sa electoral system ng bansa.

Nagretiro sa Comelec si Brillantes noong February 2, 2015.
