Pangulong Duterte, hinikayat ni Rep. Atienza na huwag nang itulak ang death penalty

Hinihikayat ni Buhay Rep. Lito Atienza si Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na tuluyan nang kalimutan ang itinutulak na death penalty sa pamamagitan ng lethal injection.

Ayon kay Atienza, pag-aaksaya lamang ng panahon ang pagsusulong ng naturang batas dahil wala itong aasahang suporta kahit pa sa kanyang mga kaalyadong kongresista.

“The President won’t get any satisfaction, even if his allies in Congress steamroller the passage of a new law reviving death sentences. The President still won’t see any judicial executions while he is in office, so he might as well give it up,” pahayag ni Atienza.

“Besides, the President’s wish to put convicts to death via a medically induced coma is no longer possible,” dagdag ng mambabatas.

Matatandaang pitong convict ang isinalang ng Bureau of Corrections sa legatl injection noong panahon ni dating Pangulong Joseph Estrada noong 1999 hanggang 2000.
