Pagbabalik ng parusang bitay, walang basehan – CHR

Nangangamba ang Commission on Human Rights (CHR) na kapag muling nagkaroon ng parusang kamatayan sa Pilipinas, maaapektuhan ang mga Filipino sa ibang bansa na nasa ‘death row.’

Sinabi ni CHR Comm. Karen Gomez – Dumpit na walang mabigat na dahilan para ibalik ang parusang kamatayan sa bansa.

Dagdag pa nito, lalabagin din ng Pilipinas ang obligasyon sa mga international human rights agreement gaya ng Second Optional Protocol to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, na ipinagbabawal ang parusang kamatayan at niratipikahan ng bansa noong 2007.

“We have committed ourselves not to execute anyone in our jurisdiction,” aniya.

Nakikita rin ng opisyal na mahihirapan na ang bansa sa pakikipag-ugnayan ukol sa transnational crimes.

Una nang umalis sa International Criminal Court ang Pilipinas noong nakaraang taon matapos talikuran ng gobyerno ang kasunduan na bumuo sa korte.
