Hiniling ni Senator Pia Cayetano sa National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) na gawin prayoridad ang mga programa na nagsusulong ng ‘sustainable and resilient growth.’
Sa pagdinig ng pinamumunuan niyang Senate Committee on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ipinanukala ni Cayetano sa NEDA na maghanda ng budget strategy para maabot ang ‘growth targets’ ng bansa sa ilalim ng United Nation’s SDGs gayundin sa AmBisyon 2040 ng Pilipinas.
“Given that NEDA is the agency tasked to oversee these goals, it would be very relevant for this committee if you can really put targets in terms of budgets to promote sustainability,” aniya.
Diin pa ng senadora maaring galawin ang budget para bigyan insentibo ang mga programang mas kapakipakinabang sa darating na mga henerasyon.
“If there will be fewer counterproductive activities, then we might be able to spend more for sustainable ones. For instance, if we can reduce expenses in addressing the detrimental effects of pollution on our people’s health, more resources could be used to build (green) infrastructure,” paliwanag pa nito.
Kabilang sa itinutulak ni Cayetano ang ‘sustainable transportation,’ kasama na ang integrasyon ng mass transport systems sa mga imprastraktura gaya ng walkways, bike lanes at bicycle parking facilities.
