Pondo para mapauwi ang mga Pinoy abroad, hanggang kalagitnaan ng Agosto na lamang

Hindi na kakayanin pa ang pondo ng Department of Foreign Affairs ang pagpapauwi sa mga Filipino na nasa ibang bansa.

Sa pagdinig ng House Committee on Public Accounts, sinabi ni Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Sarah Arriola na paubos na ang assistance-to-nationals fund ng ahensya.

Sabi ni Arriola, posibleng sa kalagitnaan ng buwan ng Agosto ay maubos na ang kanilang assistance-to-nationals fund kaya kailangan na nilang magre-align.

Ipinag-utos na aniya ni Foreign Affairs Sec. Teodoro Locsin Jr. na i-realign ang alokasyon para sa retrofitting ng kanilang gusali pero kulang pa rin aniya ito.

Mula Enero hanggang Hulyo 13, sinabi ni Arriola na mahigit P767 million na o 72.5 percent ng P1 billion na assistance-to-nationals fund na ang kanilang nagagamit.

Sa naturang halaga, higit P436 million ang ginamit para sa COVID-19 expenses, tulad na lamang ng repatriation, welfare assistance, medical assistance, at temporary accommodation sa mga distressed OFWs.

Sa ngayon, 82,057 na ang mga repatriated OFWs, kung saan 38,308 dito ang sea-based at 43,749 naman ang land-based.

Nanggaling ang mga ito sa 60 bansa at 132 cruise ships.
