Mahigit 37,000 pang OFWs uuwi sa bansa ayon sa DFA

Sa susunod na tatlo hanggang apat na linggo ay mayroon pang mahigit 37,000 na mga overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) ang uuwi sa bansa.

Ayon sa Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), sila ay pawang stranded sa mga bansang kanilang pinagtatrabahuhan dahil sa pandemic ng COVID-19.

Sa isinagawang hybrid hearing ng House committee on public accounts sinabi ni DFA Undersecretary for Migrant Workers’ Affairs Sarah Lou Arriola na magpapatuloy ang repatriation sa mga OFW.

Pero ang bilis at bilang ng mga uuwing OFWs sa bansa ay nakadepende pa rin sa guidelines ng Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP).

Kung papayagan aniya ng CAAP, mapauuwi ang nasa 37,660 na overseas workers sa loob ng apat na linggo.

Malaking tulong aniya ang pagtanggap ng Bases Conversion and Development Authority sa mga OFWs sa Clark para hindi naiipon dito sa Metro Manila ang mga umuuwi.

Sinabi ni Arriola, na umabot na sa mahigit 56,000 na OFWs ang napauwi ng DFA. Sa nasabing bilang, mahigit 31,000 ang sea-based at mahigit 25,000 ang land-based.
