Pumanaw ang dating Purefoods guard na si Junel Mendiola sa edad na 45.
Ayon sa PBA, ito ay bunsod ng iniinda na nitong sakit na unang na-diagnose anim na buwan na ang nakakalipas.
Nailipat pa mula sa Intensive Care Unit (ICU) patungo sa regular room ng Cardinal Santos Medical Center ang dating manlalaro matapos sumailalim sa lung surgery dahil sa cancer sa muscles.
Bahagi si Mendiola ng koponan ng Purefoods nang manalo sa 2002 Governors Cup sa pamumuno ni Ryan Gregorio.
“He did play a lot of minutes, but he was a contributor every time he stepped inside the court,” ayon kay Gregorio.
“He was also a positive energy in our practices. He embraced his role so well,” dagdag pa nito.
