Bagong Organic Agriculture Act ni Sen. Cynthia Villar lusot na sa senado

Ipinasa na sa Senado ang Senate Bill No. 1318 na layon maayendahan ang Republic Act 10068 o ang Organic Agriculture Act of 2010.

Paliwanag ni Sen. Cynthia Villar, ang may akda ng panukala, magiging daan ito para maging madali at mura ang pagbibigay sertipikasyon sa mga organic products ng Participatory Guarantee System (PGS).

Ayon sa senadora nagpasaklolo sa kanya ang mga magsasaka dahil sa mataas na singil na P42,000 hanggang P150,000 para sa sertipikasyon ng kanilang bawat organic product.

Sa PGS ang sertipikasyon ay nagkakahalaga lang ng P600 hanggang P2,000.

“We have huge potential in organic agriculture but our local organic farmers are disadvantaged because they cannot have their produce or products labelled as organic due to the prohibitive cost of certification. PGS is the solution to that, it will make them more competitive,” sabi pa ni Villar.

Kapag naging batas, tinatayang halos 166,000 organic farmers sa bansa ang makikinabang.
