Inanunsiyo ito ni BI Commissioner Jaime Morente matapos makatanggap ang ahensya ng donasyong 500 sets ng COVID-19 rapid test kits mula sa Chinese authorities.
Natanggap ni BI Associate Commissioner Aldwin Alegre, pinuno ng BI COVID task force chair, ang donasyong test kits mula sa Police Attache sa Embassy of the People’s Republic of China.
Ani Morente, dadaan sa COVID-19 testing ang mga BI personnel na nagkaroon ng exposure sa COVID-19.
“We are grateful to everyone for supporting our efforts to protect our employees from this virus,” pahayag ni Morente.
Ayon naman kay BI Port Operations Chief Grifton Medina, maliban sa counter duties, naitatalaga rin ang mahigit 400 immigration officers sa Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) para magproseso ng daan-daang pasaherong sakay ng repatriation at sweeper flights.
Para masunod ang ipinatutupad na protocols at mabawasan ang panganib sa sakit, ipinoproseso ng BI officers ang mga na-repatriate na pasahero sa hiwalay na terminal ng paliparan.
Samantala, maliban sa mga paliparan at pantalan, operational pa rin ang 60 tanggapan ng ahensya sa buong bansa sa kabila ng enhanced community quarantine.
“We are duty-bound to continue our operations despite the community quarantine, and this puts our personnel at risk. We hope that through COVID-19 testing, we may help lessen this risk and curb the further spread of the virus,” ani Morente.
Dahil dito, sinabi ni Morente na nag-procure sila ng personal protective equipment (PPEs) para sa mga on-duty na BI personnel.
“We have already procured medical supplies including PPEs that are projected to last until December 2020 from the Department of Budget and Management,” dagdag pa nito.
Kabilang aniya rito ang face shield, gown, gloves, goggles, at iba pang sanitizing at protective equipment.
