Balikatan exercise sa Mayo kanselado na
Kanselado na ang Balikatan exercises na nakatakdang maganap sa May 4 hanggang 15 dahil sa outbreak ng coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
Sa pahayag ng United States Indo-Pacific Command na naka-base sa Hawaii, ang kanselasyon ay kasunod ng mga ipinatupad na international travel restrictions ng US Department of Defense gayundin ng Pilipinas.
“In light of the extraordinary circumstances surrounding COVID-19 pandemic and in the best interest of the health and safety of both countries’ forces, it is prudent to cancel Balikatan 2020,” ayon sa pahayg ni Adm. Phil Davidson, commander ng US Indo-Pacific Command.
Sa kabila nito sina ni Davidson na nananatili ang kanilang commitment sa “long-standing Alliance and friendship” ng US sa Pilipinas.
Sa taunang Balikatan, dumarating sa bansa ang US forces para magsagawa ng military exercises kasama ang mga sundalo ng bansa.
May partisipasyon din dito ang Australia.
