Mga OFW, dapat ding bigyang-ayuda sa ilalim ng Bayanihan Act

Umapela ang Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP) kay Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na isama ang displaced overseas workers sa social amelioration at adjustment programs sa ilalim ng Bayanihan to Heal As One Act.

Ayon kay TUCP Rep. Raymond Mendoza, nasa 169 OFWs na ang tinamaan ng COVID-19 at dalawa ang namatay.

Bukod sa pag-aalala sa kanilang mahal sa buhay, nawalan rin aniya ng kita ang kanilang pamilya.

Binanggit ni Mendoza na base sa Job Displacement Monitoring ng DOLE hanggang nitong March 23 ay umabot na sa 3,169 OFWs ang apektado ng krisis dulot COVID-19.

Karamihan sa kanila na mga breadwinner pa man din ay nawalan ng trabaho dahil sa travel bans at isinarang borders.

Pero ayon sa kongresista, walang pondong inilaan sa Bayanihan Act para sa livelihood at employment assistance sa OFWs.

Kaya naman hinimok nito ang Pangulo na pondohan ang OFW subsidy at taasan ang alokasyon nito sa P10,000 hanggang P15,000 kada buwan para sa buong panahon na umiiral ang Enhanced Community Quarantine.
