Ambassador Romualdez, hindi pipigilan ng Palasyo na makipag-usap sa US sa posibilidad sa bagong military deal

Walang balak ang Palasyo ng Malakanyang na pigilan si Philippine Ambassador to the United States of America Jose Manuel Romualdez na makipag-usap sa Amerika para sa posibilidad na magkaroon ng bagong kasunduan ang dalawang bansa kapalit ng ibinasurang Visiting Forces Agreement (VFA).

Ayon kay Presidential spokesman Salvador Panelo, hindi maaring pigilan si Romualdez lalo na kung ang pag-uusap ay inisyatibo naman ng Amerika.

“I don’t think you can stop the ambassador from talking or entertaining initiatives coming from his counterpart. Anyway, all those are exploratory talks, and assuming that they are, because he denied that. The President’s position remains unchanged,”

Pero sa ngayon, sinabi ni Panelo na matibay ang paninidigan ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na maging self-reliant ang Pilipinas at walang bagong kasunduan sa Amerika o sa alinmang bansa.

“As I said, you cannot stop the ambassador from entertaining talks or initiatives coming from his counterparts. And that’s diplomacy,” ani Panelo.

Sinabi ni Panelo na hindi naman mauuwi sa walang katuturan ang pakikipag-usap ni Romualdez sa kanyang counterpart dahil maari naman itong magamit sa mga susunod na pagkakataon.

“Bakit naman walang katuturan, pag nag-usap ang dalawang ambassador may katuturan yun. For future use kumbaga, alam mo na,” dagdag pa nito.
