Projection ng OFW remittances, ibinaba dahil sa COVID-19

Dahil sa Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19), binabaan na ng Pilipinas ang growth projections ng remittances ng mga overseas Filipino worker (OFW) para sa taong 2020.

Ayon kay Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles, sa halip na tatlong porsyento o US$34.5 bilyon na remittances, ginawa na lamang ito sa 2.2 porsyento o US$34.2 bilyon na projection ngayong taon.

“Based on these assumptions, we expect that the COVID-19 outbreak could dampen our total cash remittance growth in 2020 by 0.8 percentage points, from 3.0 percent to 2.2 percent,” ani Nograles.

Nabatid na noong 2019, pumalo sa US$33.5 bilyon ang naging remittances ng mga OFW.

Pero ayon kay Nograles, kahit na ibinababa ang projection, maikokosindera pa rin itong record high.

Minimal din lang aniya ang epekto ng COVID-19 sa remittances ng OFW.

Paliwanag ni Nograles, 0.1 porsyento lamang ang total OFW remittances sa mainland China kung saan naging sentro ang COVID-19, 0.4 porsyento sa Macau at 2.7 porsyento sa Hong Kong.

Kumpiyansa si Nograles na makakamit pa rin ang remittances ng mga OFW dahil aayuda naman ang mga manggagawa na nasa Amerika, United Arab Emirates, at Saudi Arabia.
