Pangulong Duterte, sarado na ang pintuan para isalba ang VFA
Wala nang balak si Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na mag-entertain nang anumang inisyatibo ang pamahalaan ng Amerika para isalba pa ang Visiting Forces Agreement (VFA).
Ayon kay Presidential spokesman Salvador Panelo, pahayag ito ng pangulo matapos magpadala ang Pilipinas ng notice of termination sa Amerika.
Ayon kay Panelo, buo na rin ang pasya ni Pangulong Duterte na hindi niya pauunlakan ang anumang opisyal na imbitasyon na bumisita sa Amerika.
“The President will not entertain any initiative coming from the US government to salvage the VFA, neither will he accept any official invitation to visit the United States,” ayon kay Panelo.
Dagdag ni Panelo, ang mga desisyon ni Pangulong Duterte ay nakaangkla sa kanyang polisiya na magkaroon ng independent foreign policy ang Pilipinas batay sa national interests at general welfare ng bansa.
“All these actions are anchored on the policy of PRRD to chart an independent foreign policy with our foreign relations with other states being based on national interests and general welfare,” dagdag pa nito.
