Posibleng away sa pera ang ugat ng karumal-dumal na pagpatay kay dating Batangas Rep. Edgardo Mendoza.

Ayon kay Police Brig. Gen. Joel Colonel, director ng Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG), base ito sa mga testimonya ng mga naimbitahang katrabaho ni Mendoza.

Dagdag pa nito, ang dating mambabatas lamang ang target sa pagpatay at nadamay lamang ang bodyguard at driver nito na sina Nicanor Mendoza at Ruel Ruiz.
