Pag-upa ng Chevron sa lupa ng gobyerno sa Batangas, ipinatitigil na ng DOF
Inirekomenda na ng Department of Finance (DOF) sa board ng National Development Company (NDC) na ipatigil na ang pag-upa ng isa sa mga subsidiary nito na Chevron Philippines Incorporated sa 120 ektaryang lupain sa Batangas.
Ito ay matapos mabatid na umuupa lamang ang Chevron ng 74 centavos kada square meter kada buwan sa 120 ektaryang lupain o 1.2 million square meters sa Batangas Land Company Incorpoertaed ng apat na dekada.
Sa pulong balitaan sa Malakanyang, sinabi ni Finance Assistant Secretary Tony Lambino na kukunin na ng pamahalaan ang naturang lupa na ginamit ng Chevron bilang oil import terminal.
Masyado aniyang maliit ang 74 centavos na upa kumpara sa fair market rental na P17.90 kada square meter.
“The Department of Finance (DOF) has recommended to the board of the National Development Co. (NDC) to shut down one of its subsidiaries by 2021 so the government can finally take back its sprawling 120-hectare (1.2 million sq.m.) property in Batangas now valued at around Php 5 billion, but which Chevron Philippines Inc. (formerly Caltex Philippines) has been leasing for a measly 74 centavos per sq. m. per month, only 4% of the current monthly fair market rental estimate of Php 17.90 per sq. m,” ani Lambino.
Kung susumahin, nasa P10.66 milyon lamang ang naging upa ng Chevron kada taon. Malayo sa P257.76 milyon sana na dapat ay makuha ng gobyerno.
Sinang-ayunan naman ng NDC ang rekomendasyon ng DOF kung kaya ipatitigil na ang pag-upa ng Chevron simula sa taong 2021.
Nabatid na 1970s pa sana dapat ay itinurn over na sa gobyerno ang Batangas property subalit napalawig pa ito.
