Number portability service target maumpisahan ng DICT sa 2020

Target na ng Department of Information and Communications and Tecnology (DICT) na masimulang ipatupad ang Mobile Number Portability Act sa 2020.

Ayon kay DICT Undersecretary Eliseo Rio Jr., masyadong mahaba ang labingwalong taon na itinakda ng mga telecommunications companies para planuhin ang pagtugon sa batas.

Sa panayam ng Radyo Inquirer, sinabi ni Rio na pagpasok ng buwan ng Enero, kakausapin na ng DICT ang mga telco para mapabilis ang proseso ng integration.

Kinuha ng Smart, Globe at Dito Telecommunity ang serbisyo ng US-based na Syniverse bilang common provider para sa pagpapatupad ng number portability.

Sa ilalim nito, maari nang i-retain ng users ang kanilang cellphone numbers kahit magpalit sila ng network.

Target ng mga telco na sa kalagitnaan ng 2021 ay maipatutupad na ang number portability service.

Sinabi ni Rio na kakailanganin na dumaan sa testing para maipatupad ang serbisyo.

“Some mobile numbers are being used for banking and ‘wallet’ purposes. Some numbers are attached to bank accounts, credit cards, online shopping, etc.,” sinabi ni Rio sa Radyo Inquirer.
