BI, naglunsad ng e-gates para sa mga paalis na OFW
Inilunsad ng Bureau of Immigration (BI) ang kanilang electronic gates (e-gates) sa departure area ng Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
Ayon kay BI Commissioner Jaime Morente, pinirmahan na niya ang memorandum of agreement kasama ang service provider para sa pilot testing ng e-gates sa NAIA Terminal 2 immigration departure area.
Layon nitong mapabilis at mabawasan ang passenger queues sa immigration counters sa kasagsagan ng holiday season.
Unang itinalaga ang e-gate system sa immigration arrival areas ng tatlong terminal sa NAIA at international airports sa Mactan-Cebu, Davao at Clark noong nakaraang taon.
Sa tulong nito, bumaba ang long queues sa mga paliparan na sumasalamin sa tagumpay ng proyekto.
Kasunod nito, umaasa si Morente na magiging matagumpay din ang pagpapatupad nito sa NAIA Terminal 2 immigration departure area.
“We are optimistic that the same success will be replicated when the scheme becomes fully operational in our airports’ immigration departure areas,” ani Morente.
Sinabi ni Morente na ma-aaccommodate lamang nito ang mga paalis na overseas Filipino worker (OFW) para matiyak ang mas maayos at mabilis na proseso.
Nagpasalamat din si Morente sa suporta nina Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte at Sen. Christopher “Bong” Go sa proyekto.
Ayon naman kay Grifton Medina, hepe ng BI port operations division, tatagal ang pilot testing at demonstration nang anim na buwan.
Target aniya ng ahensya na maproseso ang hindi bababa sa 100,000 pasahero bago gawing fully operational ang proyekto.
Pumayag din aniya ang service provider sa inisyal na pag-install at operate ng dalawang e-gates at biometric machines sa NAIA Terminal 2 para sa eksklusibong paggamit ng paalis na OFWs at airline crew ng Philippine Airlines (PAL).
Samantala, sinabi ni Medina ang ibang pasahero ay sasailalim pa rin sa regular immigration inspection.
Patuloy pa kasi aniya ang pag-aaral ng ahensya sa feasibility ng pagpapatupad ng scheme sa permanent residents at iba pang ACR I-Card holders.
