Napili ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte si Lt. Gen. Gilbert Gapay, commander ng Southern Luzon Command, bilang susunod na hepe ng Philippine Army.

Kinumpirma ito ni Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana.

Papalitan ni Gapay si Philippine Army chief Lt. Gen. Macairog Alberto.

Aabutin na kasi ni Alberto ang retirement age na 56 sa araw ng Biyernes, December 6.

Si Gapay ay dating nagsilbi bilang commander ng Mechanized Infantry Division at deputy commander ng Eastern Mindanao Command.

Nanguna rin ito sa klase sa Philippine Military Academy “Sinagtala” Class of 1986.
