NUJP: Media hindi dapat sisihin sa mga aberya sa SEA Games
Binatikos ng National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP) ang ginagawang pag-atake laban sa mga mamamahayag dahil sa coverage ng 30th Southeast Asian Games.
Ayon sa NUJP hindi tama na pinagpipiyestahan ng mga troll ang media dahil sa pag-ulat tungkol sa hindi maayos na preparasyon sa SEA Games.
Pero mas hindi umano katanggap-tanggap na pinili na ring i-bash ng sports officials ang media gayong hindi naman dapat ang mga ito ang dapat sisihin sa mga pagkukulang.
“It becomes ridiculously unacceptable when the officials responsible for the disaster resort to bashing media as well as if the reports on their shortcomings were to blame for the disaster,” ayon sa NUJP.
Reaksyon ito ng NUJP matapos sabihin ni Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee (PHISGOC) Chief Operating Officer Ramon Suzara sa isang press conference na nakatuon lamang ang atensyon ng media sa mga negatibong pangyayari sa SEA Games.
Giit ng NUJP, trabaho ng media na iulat ang mga balita nang nababatay sa katotohanan.
Wala din umanong lugar sa demokrasya ang pagdikta kung ano lamang ang pwedeng iulat ng mga mamamahayag.
“The NUJP wishes to remind Mr. Suzara that the duty of the press has always been to report things as they are, based on verifiable facts, and not to pander to anyone’s perception of what is, or should be. Attempting to dictate how the media should report the news has no place in a democracy,” giit ng grupo.
Una nang humingi ng paumanhin ang PHISGOC para sa mga naging aberya sa pagdating ng football teams ng ibang bansa.
Pero ayon kay Suzara, naresolba na ang mga isyung ito at handa na ang Pilipinas para sa hosting ng SEA Games.
“Handa tayo. There are just little things before the opening ceremony, but we have resolved that,” ani Suzara.
