DOTr: PUV modernization tuloy; pero ‘old but roadworthy’ jeepneys papayagan pa rin sa 2020

Nagbigay-linaw ang Department of Transportation (DOTr) na tuloy pa rin at walang atrasan ang Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP) ng gobyerno.

Sa pahayag Miyerkules gabi, mariing pinabulaanan ng DOTr ang lumabas na balitang kanselado na ang programa.

Ayon sa DOTr, ang kanilang sinabi sa deliberasyon ng kanilang 2020 budget sa Senado ay pahihintulutan muna ang mga lumang jeep na makapamasada pagsapit ng July 2020.

Ito ay sa kondisyong papasa ang kanilang mga sasakyan sa motor vehicle inspection system (MVIS) o road worthiness test.

Kabilang dito ang emission at safety test.

Ang operators na may lumang jeep ay kailangang maghain ng petition for consolidation bago sumapit ang June 30, 2020.

Dapat ding magsumite ang operators ng petisyong nagsasaad sa layuning lumahok sa PUVMP.

Sakaling mabigo ang operators, ibibigay ang kanilang mga ruta sa ibang interesadong aplikante.

Welcome kay Senator Grace Poe, chairman ng public services committee ang hakbang ng DOTr na huwag munang awtomatikong i-phase-out ang mga lumang jeep.

“This is for their sake. This is a lot more pragmatic for us, expedient. That if it is still plyable, if it’s safe, and doesn’t have any adverse emissions, that it be allowed and it will also save a lot,” ani Poe.

Ang PUV modernization program ay sinasalubong ng kaliwa’t kanang protesta dahil sa umano’y pagiging ‘anti-poor’.
