Indonesia naglabas ng tsunami warning matapos ang magnitude 7.1 na lindol

Naglabas ng tsunami alert ang Indonesia matapos ang magnitude 7.1 na lindol na tumama sa karagatan sa Hilagang-Kanluran ng Moluccas.

Una nang sinabi ng U.S Geological Survey na may lakas na magnitude 7.4 ang lindol ngunit ibinaba ito sa magnitude 7.1.

Ang episentro ng lindol ay sa layong 139 kilometro Hilagang-Kanluran ng city of Ternate ay may lalim na 75 kilometro.

Ayon sa opisyal ng geophysics agency ng Indonesia na si Rahmat Triyono, bagama’t malaki ang posibilidad na hindi tatama sa lupa ang mapanganib na mga alon na dulot ng tsunami ay kailangan pa ring maging alerto.

“Most likely it (a tsunami) won’t hit the land, but we still need to be on alert,” ani Triyono.

Ganito rin ang sinabi ng seismologist na si Stephen Hicks mula sa Imperial College London.

Ayon kay Hicks, swerte na lamang at malalim ang pagyanig at hindi masyadong makakapaminsala.

“Fortunately, it has occurred offshore and at a reasonably deep depth so risk of damage from shaking and tsunami is low,” ani Hicks.

Pagkatapos pa lamang ng lindol, una nang nagsabi ang Phivolcs na walang banta ng tsunami sa Pilipinas.
