Thailand pormal nang ipinasa ang ASEAN chairmanship sa Vietnam

Ipinasa na ng Thailand ang chairmanship ng ASEAN Summit sa Vietnam.

Sa closing ceremony ng 35th ASEAN Summit and Related Summit sa Thailand araw ng Lunes, ipinasa ang symbolic ‘gavel’ o malyete sa Vietnam.

Ipinasa ni Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha kay Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc ang gavel.

Sa kanyang acceptance speech, inanunsyo ni Phuc na ang magiging tema ng ASEAN 2020 Summit ay ‘Cohesive and Responsive ASEAN’.

Ayon kay Phuc, ang dalawang elemento sa temang napili ay magkaugnay at ‘mutually reenfocing’.

“The two elements in this theme are in synergy and mutually reinforcing. A cohesive and growing community requires being more responsive to the evolving environment. On the other hand, being responsive to challenges may always succeed should ASEAN remain a cohesive whole,’ ani Phuc.

Umaasa si Phuc na magkakaisa ang ASEAN para maging matagumpay ang ASEAN 2020 Summit.

Ito ang ikatlong beses na pangungunahan ng Vietnam ang summit, una ay noong 1998 at ikalawa noong 2010.

 

Sisimulan ng Vietnam ang chairmanship sa January 1 hanggang December 31, 2020.
