Comelec handang magsagawa ng special elections sa 3 lugar sa Mindanao

Nagpahayag ng kahandaan ang Commission on Elections (Comelec) sa pagsasagawa ng special elections sa tatlong lalawigan sa Mindanao.

Ito ay kaugnay ng electoral protest na inihain ni dating Senator Bongbong Marcos laban kay Vice President Leni Robredo.

May nakabinbing petisyon si Marcos na ibasura ang resulta ng halalan sa Maguindanao, Lanao del Sur at Basilan dahil sa umano’y talamak na karahasan, dayaan at pananakot noong 2016 elections.

Sa isang Twitter post sinabi ni Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez na trabaho ng Comelec na magdaos ng halalan.

Kaya’t kung kinakailangan anya na magsagawa ng halalan sa tatlong probinsya sa Mindanao ay gagawin ito ng Comelec.

“The question was ‘if required to conduct elections, would Comelec be able to do so?’ It is the COMELEC’s job to hold elections, so obviously, yes, the Comelec would be able to do it if it became necessary,” ani Jimenez.

Gayunman, sinabi ni Jimenez na kailangan munang alamin ng Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET) kung may failure of elections sa nasabing mga lugar bago makapagsagawa muli ng halalan.

“PET has to rule on that issue (failure of elections); not the COMELEC’s call,” dagdag ni Jimenez.
