P36M na halaga ng giant clams nakumpiska sa Cordova, Cebu

Nakumpiska ng pinagsanib-pwersa ng Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources – Central Visayas (BFAR-7) at National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) ang P36 milyon na halaga ng giant clams sa dalawang barangay sa Cordova, Cebu.

May bigat na 1,600 kilograms ang mga nakumpiskang giant clams sa Barangay Catarman at Day-as.

Tatlong suspek naman ang dinakip na kinilalang sina George Oldama, Bebeng Oldama, at Rowena Tahanlangit.

Ayon kay Atty. Lawyer Tomas Enrile, regional director ng NBI Central Visayas, ang giant clams ay naibebenta ng P18,000 hanggang P20,000 kada kilo.

Sinabi ng BFAR-7 ang pagkuha sa mga giant clam ay paglabag sa Republic Act 10654 o “Act to Prevent, Deter and Eliminate Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing.”

Protektado din ang giant clams sa ilalim ng Convention on the International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Flora and Fauna (CITES).
