Ang panawagan ay ginawa ng pangulo sa kanyang talumpati sa switch-on ceremony ng San Buenaventura Power Ltd. Co. araw ng Miyerkules sa Taguig City.
“To our friends in the private sector, I ask you to follow the lead of San Buenaventura Power by investing in the generation of clean energy,” ani Duterte.
Ayon kay Duterte, dahil sa mga ginawang reporma ng kanyang administrasyon, masisiguro niya sa mga negosyante ang pagtupad sa mas epektibo at mabisang business strategies basta’t binibigyan ng malaking importansya ang proteksyon sa kapaligiran at mga komunidad.
“With substantial reforms that this administration has instituted in the past three years, I can assure you that you’ll be able to pursue more effective and efficient business strategies as long as you give utmost importance for the protection of our environment and the welfare of your host communities,” giit ng pangulo.
Binuksan na ng SBPL ang kanilang 500-megawatt (MW) supercritical coal-fired power plant sa Mauban Quezon na inaasahang makapagdaragdag ng kapasidad sa Luzon grid.
Gumagamit ang coal plant ng high-efficiency, low-emission (HELE) coal technology na nagbibigay daan para makapag-operate ito sa ‘higher temperatures and pressures’.
Sa pamamagitan ng naturang teknolohiya, naaabot ang higher coal burning efficiency habang nababawasan naman ang emission.
Samantala, tiniyak din ni Pangulong Duterte ang ‘commitment’ ng gobyerno sa paggamit ng renewable energy para sa pag-unlad ng ekonomiya ng bansa.
“As we look forward to the future of power generation in the Philippines with much optimism, let me assure our partners in the private sector that this administration remains committed to harnessing the potential of sustainable [and] renewable energy in driving the growth of our economy,” dagdag ng pangulo.
Inatasan naman ng presidente ang Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) at the Department of Energy (DOE) na tiyaking makasusunod ang mga kumpanya sa mga batas.
