PH, AU navies nagsasagawa ng maritime drills sa Zamboanga City

Nagsimula na ang ninth annual maritime exercises ng Philippine Navy at Royal Australian Navy sa Ensign Majini Pier ng Naval Forces Western Mindanao sa Zamboanga City, araw ng Lunes.

Umaga ng Lunes ng dumaong ang HMAS Ararat sa pantalan hudyat ng pagsisimula ng Maritime Training Activity (MTA) sa pagitan ng Pilipinas at Australia.

Aarangkada ang maritime drills hanggang sa November 6.

Ang Ararat ay isang Armidale-class patrol boat na may 25-mm autocannon at two 12.7-mm machine guns.

Kayang magsagawa ng iba’t ibang mission ng naturang barko kabilang ang fisheries protection, immigration, customs at drug law enforcement operation.

Layon ng MTA na mapalakas ang inter-operability ng dalawang hukbong pandagat.

Ayon kay Armed Forces of the Philippines-Western Mindanao Command chief Lieutenant General Cirilito Sobejana, hindi na maiisipan pa ng mga kaaway ng estado na dumaan sa mga lugar kung saan isinasagawa ang joint drills.

“With this joint exercise, I do believe that it is a very big deterrent so that the enemies of the state will think twice of passing along the area where the joint exercise is being conducted,” ani Sobejana.

Isa anyang ‘security boost’ ang joint drills sa lugar.
