Pormal nang inanunsyo ng Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) araw ng Lunes ang nakatakdang paglulunsad sa P20 new generation currency (NGC) coin.
Sa pahayag, sinabi ng BSP na madaling matutukoy ang P20 coin kumpara sa mga kasalukuyang barya.
“The design and features of the new 20-piso coin shall make it easily distinguishable from the rest of the denominations in the NGC coin series,” ayon sa BSP.
Gayunman, pananatilihin sa bagong P20 coin ang ‘major elements’ ng P20 banknote.
Target mailabas at maisama sa sirkulasyon ang bagong barya sa 2020 habang unti-unting tinatanggal ang banknote.
Una nang lumabas sa pag-aaral ng University of the Philippines (UP) na ‘most used’ o pinakagamit ang P20 banknote sa mga transaksyon sa buong bansa.
Dahil dito, madalas ibinabalik ang P20 bill sa BSP para papalitan kaya’t mas magiging cost efficient na gawin itong barya.
“Because of this, the 20-piso banknote is easily rendered unfit for circulation and returned to the BSP for replacement. As such, the issuance of a coin in lieu of a banknote is more cost efficient in terms of currency production in the long run,” giit ng BSP.
Samantala, maglalabas din ng ‘enhance’ P5 coin para madali rin itong matukoy kumpara sa ibang barya.
