67 pang online lenders ipinatawag ng NPC dahil sa reklamo sa data privacy

Naglabas ang National Privacy Commission (NPC) ng summons sa 67 pang hindi nakalistang operators ng online lending applications.

Ito ay bunsod ng reklamo laban sa mga online lenders ukol sa data privacy.

Kabilang dito ang umanoy access at paggamit sa mga contact persons ng mga biktima sa kanilang mga cellphones ng walang consent.

Ang impormasyon ang ginagamit ng lending app para sabihan ang mga contact persons na sila ay co-makers o character references ng mga biktima.

Ayon sa NPC, ilan ang nagreklamo na kinukuha ng online lenders ang contacts sa telepono para mabayaran ang utang habang ang personal na impormasyon sa social media ay pinopost nila ng wala ring consent ng biktima.

Dahil dito, inutusan ng NPC ang board of directors ng mga lending apps na humarap sa Commission para sa summary hearing, magsumite ng Responsive Comment at magprisinta ng kanilang depensa.

Ayon sa ahensya, ang mga operators ng mga hindi nakalistang kumpanya ay walang kaukulang pangalan ng kumpanya o business address.

“Our investigation team is committed in attending to all the complaints filed against online lending apps. However, to date, only the Uniform Resource Locator (URL) and the developers behind the 67 apps are identifiable. They have no known company name and business address, nor has anyone appeared before the Commission to represent them. Our investigators are aware that some of these online lending apps are just existing in the cloud. With the defendants being unknown, summons by publication is needed in order to comply with the rules on acquiring jurisdiction and the principle of due process,” pahayag ni Privacy Commissioner Raymund Enriquez Liboro.
