Christmas ham production babawasan; seasonal hiring apektado rin dahil sa ASF
Posibleng hindi masyadong bumaha ang Christmas ham ngayong Kapaskuhan dahil sa African Swine Fever (ASF).
Ito ay matapos ianunsyo ng Philippine Association of Meat Processors Inc. (PAMPI) na babawasan ang produksyon ng Christmas ham.
Sa press briefing araw ng Biyernes, sinabi ng PAMPI officials na ilan sa mga miyembro ng industriya ay nagdesisyong bawasan ang produksyon ng hamon dahil sa ban sa pork at pork products ng mga lalawigan ng Cebu at Bohol.
Ayon kay PAMPI Vice-President Jerome D. Ong, maging ang kanyang kumpanya na CDO ay magbabawas ng produksyon ng ham ng 15 hanggang 20 percent.
Dahil dito, apektado ng mas mababang produksyon ang 10,000 seasonal workers ng meat industry tuwing magpa-Pasko.
“Mababawasan ‘yung mga seasonal employees na iha-hire natin. Hopefully, it will not result in layoffs because it’s a seasonal product. But if the situation persists, if total ban lingers, pati ‘yung year-round products maapektuhan,” ani Ong.
Tiniyak naman ni Ong na hindi magtataas ang PAMPI ng presyo ng kanilang mga produkto kahit mas mataas na ang presyo ng pork materials dahil sa African Swine Fever (ASF).
Bukod sa CDO, ang iba pang miyembro ng PAMPI ay Purefoods Hormel Company, Pacific Meat Co. Inc., Frabelle Corporation at Pampanga’s Best.
