Polio muling nakabalik sa bansa ayon sa DOH

Kinumpirma ng Department of Health na mayroon silang naitalang bagong kaso ng polio sa bansa.

Ito ay makaraang ideklarang polio-free na ang bansa labingsiyam na taon na ang nakalilipas.

Isang tatlong taong gulang na batang babae mula sa Lanao Del Sur ang tinamaan ng nasabing virus.

Kinakitaan rin ng polio virus ang nakuhang water sample sa ilang kanal sa Metro Manila at Davao City.

“A single confirmed polio case of vaccine-derived polio virus type 2 or two positive environmental samples that are genetically linked isolated in two different locations is considered an epidemic in a polio-free country,” ayon sa pahayag ng DOH.

Ipinaliwanag naman ni Health Sec. Francisco Duque na wala pang gamot ang nadidiskubre laban sa polio.Bakuna pa rin ayon sa kalihim ang siyang pinaka-mabisang paraan para maiwasan ang nasabing sakit.

Pinag-aaralan na rin ng DOH ang paglulunsad ng isang malawakang vaccination program kontra polio.
