CBCP exec: Publiko dapat maging mapagmatyag sa mga pinapalayang preso ng BuCor

Nanawagan ang isang opisyal ng Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) sa publiko na bantayan ang ginagawang pagpapalaya ng Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) sa ilang mga preso.

Sa panayam ng church-run Radyo Veritas, sinabi ni CBCP Episcopal Commission on Prison and Pastoral Care Executive Secretary Bro. Rudy Diamante na dapat maging mapagmatyag ang lahat sa mga pinapalaya ng BuCor.

Ani Diamante, hindi dapat mapalaya ang mga preso dahil lamang sa palakasan at korapsyon.

“Dapat maging mapagmatyag tayo, yun ang hinihiling namin sa aming mga volunteers in prison, ganun na din sa aming partners sa Parole and Probation Administration na i-monitor yung mga taong lumalaya na hopefully hindi ito lalaya na out of para bang political consideration or out of corruption,” ani Diamante.

Sinabi pa ng CBCP official na laging pinag-iisipan ng Simbahan kung paano marereporma ang sistema ng hustisya sa bansa.

“[‘Yan] ang stand ng simbahan kasi we always look into how to go about reforming the kind of justice system that we have,” dagdag ng kalihim.

Ang pahayag ng CBCP official ay matapos mabunyag ang ginawang pagpapalaya ng BuCor sa 1,914 na convict ng heinous crimes dahil sa Republic Act 10592 o Good Conduct Time Allowance.

Sa ilalim ng nasabing batas, hindi kwalipikadong ang mga nahatulan sa heinous crimes.

Nauna na ring ibinabala ni Diamante na ang kaso ng rapist at murderer na si dating Calauan, Laguna Mayor Antonio Sanchez ay makakuha ng simpatya sa publiko para maibalik ang death penalty.

Ayon kay Diamante, pinupulitika ang isyu kay Sanchez para lamang maibalik ang parusang kamatayan.

Maging si Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo ay naglinaw nang hindi kwalipikado si Sanchez sa GCTA.

“It seems like what they are saying is if there was death penalty, Sanchez would have been on the death row and we wouldn’t be having this problem. The issue is being politicized now. It appears that they want to make this as their argument in reviving the death penalty,” ani Diamante.
