Panelo walang balak magresign dahil sa kaso ni Sanchez
Walang balak si Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo na patulan ang hamon ni dating Judge Harriett Demetriou na magbitiw sa puwesto matapos ang mga alegasyon na may kinalaman siya sa paglaya sana ni convicted rapist at murderer at dating Calauan, Laguna Mayor Antonio Sanchez.
Sa text message ni Panelo sa Radyo Inquirer, sinabi nito na nakalulungkot na inilabas ni Demetriou ang kanyang mga opinyon base sa sa mga espekulasyon.
“My office has nothing to do with the release of qualified inmates. That is the turf and the responsibility of the Department of Justice and the concerned offices under it. I do not intrude nor poke my finger into any matter that not within the mandate of my office”, ayon sa kalihim.
Una rito, sinabi ni Demetriou na imposibleng walang alam si Panelo sa napipintong paglaya ng kanyang dating kliyente lalo’t presidential legal counsel siya ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte.
Pero ayon kay Panelo, nang konsultahin siya ng pangulo, agad niyang sinabi na base sa nakasaad sa Republic Act 10592, hindi kwalipikado si Sanchez sa good conduct and time allowance dahil heinous crime o karumal dumal na krimen ang kinasasangkutan ni Sanchez.
Si Sanchez ang gumahasa at nag-utos na patayin si Eileen Sarmenta at Allan Gomez sa Calauan, Laguna noong 1993.
Ayon kay Panelo, wala siyang kinalaman sa pagre-release o pagpapalaya sa mga kwalipikadong bilanggo.
Iginiit pa ng kalihim na nasa balwarte ng Department of Justice ang usapin kay Sanchez.
