Sotto: SOGIE bill ‘no chance’ sa Senado
Idineklara ni Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III na walang tyansang pumasa sa Senado ang Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity and Expression (SOGIE) bill.
Layon ng panukala na maprotektahan ang mga miyembro ng lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) community mula sa diskriminasyon.
Sa kanyang text message sa reporters araw ng Miyerkules sinabi ni Sotto na kung ang panukala ay anti-discrimination para sa lahat ng tao ay maaari pang makalusot.
Gayunman, kung tulad ng SOGIE na nakatuon ang focus sa mga nasa third sex ay wala itong tyansa.
Ayon sa Senate President, posibleng maapektuhan ng panukala ang religious at academic freedom at maaari ring ito ang magpasimula para maipasa naman ang same sex marriage.
“Anti-discrimination on persons, pwede, pero [it’s possible, but] focused on gays, which the SOGIE bill is, and religious and academic freedom impeded plus smuggling of same sex marriage? No chance!”, ani Sotto.
Noong 2017, sa ilalim ng 17th Congress nakalusot sa Mababang Kapulungan ang SOGIE Bill.
Pero ang counterpart ng panukala sa Senado ay hindi naaprubahan at isa si Sotto sa mariing tumutol dito kasama sina Senators Manny Pacquiao at Joel Villanueva.
Ang usapin sa pagpasa sa SOGIE bill ay umingay matapos ang iginigiit ng transgender na si Gretchen Diez na nakaranas siya ng diskriminasyon sa comfort room ng isang mall sa Quezon City.
