Sotto tinuruan ni Hontiveros ukol sa mga termino ng LGBTQI community
Ikinalito ni Senate President Tito Sotto ang mahaba o maraming letra na tumutukoy sa LGBTQI community.
Sa sesyon sa Senado araw ng Miyerkules, nagtanong si Sotto kung paano nabuo ang mga initials ng LGBTQI.
Ito ay matapos ang privilege speech ni Senator Risa Hontiveros kaugnay ng “Orientation and Gender Identity and Expression (SOGIE) bill.
Tanong ni Sotto, bakit umano maraming letra at hindi na lang gamitin ang salitang “homo sapiens.” Bakit anya kailangang ihiwalay ang mga bakla at tomboy sa mga “straight” na lalaki.
“Why that lengthy letters? Why not just homo sapiens? Why do we have to segregate the gays from the lesbians, the straight guys,” tanong ni Sotto.
Paliwanag ni Hontiveros, tama si Sotto na hindi na dapat paghiwalayin ang pagtukoy sa mga tao, ito ay kung walang umiiral na disriminasyon pero hindi anya ito ang nangyayari sa ngayon.
“There would not have been a need to segregate, I agree with you, if human civilizations and societies evolved to a point where there is no discrimination, and there’s equality among all, regardless of identity, regardless of expression, But that’s not what’s happening,” ani Hontiveros.
Ang LGBTQI ay nangangahulugan ng lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer at intersex.
Naging kontrobersyal itong isyu matapos na arestuhin ang transgender woman na si Gretchen Custodio Diez na gumamit ng banyo para sa mga babae sa isang mall sa Quezon City.
Dahil sa kalituhan, sinabihan ni Hontiveros si Sotto na ang human sexuality sa kasalukuyan ay marami ng kulay at shade kaya nadaragdagan o lumalawak ang bumubuo sa naturang sektor.
