USS Ronald Reagan dumaong sa Maynila

Nasa Pilipinas ang nuclear-powered US aircraft carrier na USS Ronald Reagan para sa isang port visit.

Dumating sa Maynila kahapon ang aircraft carrier kasama ang Ticonderoga class guided-missile cruisers na USS Antietam (CG 54) at USS Chancellorsville (CG 62).

Ang pagbisita ng barko sa bansa ay pagpapakita ng matatag na ugnayan ng Pilipinas at US.

“This port call is a direct reflection of the longstanding relationship between the U.S. and the Philippines and underscores our strong support to peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region,” ani Rear Admiral Karl Thomas, Commander ng Task Force 70.

Bago dumaong sa Maynila, naglayag sa South China Sea ang USS Ronald Reagan na tila pahiwatig ng kakayahang pangmilitar ng US sa gitna ng pagiging agresibo ng China sa teritoryo.

Noon lamang Linggo, August 4, binatikos ni US Defense Sec. Mark Esper ang militarisasyon ng China sa South China Sea kabilang ang exclusive economic zone ng Pilipinas (EEZ).

Sa ilang araw na pananatili ng nasa 5,000 crew ng Ronald Reagan Carrier Strike, magkakaroon ng cultural activities at sporting events kasama ang Philippine Navy.

Magkakaroon din ng tours para sa mga estudyante at kabataan sa naturang mga barko.
