Pagbebenta ng UCPB pansamantalang ipinahinto ng DOF

Pansamantalang ipinagpaliban ng pamahalaan ang pagbebenta ng United Coconut Planters Bank (UCPB).

Pero tuloy naman ang paghahanap ng paraan para mabawi ang capital at deposit investments base sa direktiba ni Finance Sec. Carlos Dominguez.

Sa ngayon ay nakasalang pa rin sa masusing pag-aaral ng DOF kung magkano ang kikitain ng pamahalaan sa pagbebenta ng interes nito sa nasabing bangko.

“You see the situation in UCPB. The government has supported it for so many years. In fact, we still have P42 billion with them. So the question is, how is it best for us to recover the P42 billion plus all the cost of money of that P42 billion all these years? Is it through privatization or another means?” ayon sa pahayag ng kalihim.

Ipinaliwanag rin ni Dominguez na hindi bababa sa P100 Billion ang kabuuang investments na nailagak ng pamahalaan sa UCPB sa mga nakalipas na taon.

Mula noong taong 2008 ay tumatanggap na ang UCPB ng capital and income support mula sa gobyerno base sa pahayag ng Philippine Depositors’ Insurance Corporation (PDIC).

“The original financial assistance package was amended in 2008. The loan assistance of P20 billion was converted to P12 billion in capital notes and P8 billion in purchase-of-assets without buyback,” ayon kay PDIC President Roberto Tan.

Sinabi naman ni Dominguez na pinag-aaralang mabuti ng DOF ang kaso ng UCPB dahil tiyak na mas malulugi at hindi mare-recover ng gobyerno ang kabuuag investment nito sa nasabing bangko kapag naisa-pribado ang naturang banking institution.
