Manila Water, Maynilad at MWSS pinagmumulta ng SC ng P921M bawat isa

Pinatawan ng Korte Suprema ng multang P921 milyon bawat isa ang Manila Water, Maynilad at Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS).

Sa botong 14-0 ng Supreme Court en banc, pinagmumulta ang tatlo dahil sa paglabag sa Republic Act No. 9275 o Philippine Clean Water Act of 2004.

Ayon sa tagapagsalita ng Korte Suprema na si Brian Keith Hosaka, pinagtibay ng SC ang desisyon ng Court of Appeals sa dalawang magkahiwalay na kaso na isinampa ng Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

Dapat bayaran ng tatlong kumpanya ang multa sa loob ng 15 araw pagka-tanggap ng desisyon ng korte.

Nakasaad sa ruling na bigo ang Manila Water at Maynilad na magtayo ng pasilidad para sa sewage treatment at sewage lines.

Samantala, tiniyak ni Manila Water Spokesman Jeric Sevilla na tutugon ang kumapanya sa utos ng korte oras na makatanggap na sila ng kopya nito.

Habang sinabi ni Maynilad Spokesman Jen Rufo na iaapela o maghahain sila ng motion for consideration kaugnay ng SC ruling.
