DOT: El Nido maaaring ma-rehab nang hindi isinasara
Iginiit ng Department of Tourism na posible namang isailalim sa rehabilitasyon ang El Nido, Palawan kahit hindi isara ang apat na beach resort nito taliwas sa sa unang inirekomenda ng Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).
Sa rekomendasyon ng DILG, ipinasasara ang resorts sa tatlong baranggay sa Bacuit Bay at isang baranggay sa Corong-Corong dahil sa mataas na lebel ng fecal coliform sa katubigan ng nasabing mga lugar.
Ayon kay Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, pupulungin niya sina Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu at Interior Secretary Eduardo Año sa August 1 at magiging bahagi ng agenda ang El Nido.
Pero sa ngayon, sinabi ni Puyat na sa pananaw ng DOT ay posible naman ang rehabilitasyon sa isla kahit hindi ito ipasara.
“But as of now, from the DOT’s perspective, a rehabilitation without closure is the most viable recommendation,” dagdag ng kalihim.
Iniulat ni Año na umabot sa halos 3.4 million most probable number per 100 milligrams of water ang lebel ng fecal coliform sa El Nido estero.
Lumulutang anya ang dumi ng tao sa nasabing creek.
Ang panukalang isara ang El Nido ay nangangailangan ng pag-apruba ng DOT at DENR.
