Metro Manila shake drill ngayong umaga na

Tutunog ang mga cellphones, sirena at alarms pagsapit ng alas-4:00 ngayong madaling araw.

Ito ay dahil sa ikalimang metrowide earthquake drill na layong sanayin naman ang publiko sa kung ano ang dapat gawin kapag may lindol sa oras ng pagtulog.

Ayon kay MMDA Disaster Risk Reduction and Management chief Michael Salalima, dapat mag-‘duck, cover and hold’ ang mga residente kapag narinig na ang alarma.

Magkakaroon ng simulation ng ‘critical scenarios’ kabilang ang evacuation, fire control, pagguho ng building, pagliligtas sa mga naipit na tao at emergency medical assistance.

Ayon kay Salalima, hindi susukatin sa drill kung gaano karami ang lalahok kundi masasabi itong matagumpay kapag nabatid ng publiko ang kahalagahan ng ganitong mga aktibidad.

“This will not be a question of whether how many participated.  The very measure of a successful staging of this shake drill is how the people understood its importance,” ani Salalima.

Tutukuyin matapos ang drill ang mga dapat pang linangin sa paghahanda para sa lindol.

Sinabi pa ng opisyal na walang kahit sinong makakahula kung kailan tatama ang lindol kaya’t mas mataas ang tyansang makaligtas mula rito kung handa ang mga tao at alam ang kanilang gagawin.

“No one can predict when an earthquake would happen but the chances of survival are better when people are prepared and know what to do when a strong tremor happens,” dagdag ni Salalima.
