Pagpapaliban ng 2020 barangay, SK polls hindi sakop ng mandato ng Comelec
Hindi sakop ng mandato ng Commission on Elections (Comelec) ang pagpapaliban sa May 2020 Barangay and Sannguniang Kabataan (SK) Elections.
Sa isang tweet, sinabi ni Comelec spokesman James Jimenez na hindi kontrolado ng poll body ang pagdaraos ng barangay elections.
Ang pagpapaliban anya sa halalan ay nakasalalay sa desisyon ng Kongreso.
“Because the schedule of the #BSKE is contained in a statute, it can be amended by legislation. this is a question addressed to the discretion of Congress; it’s not something the COMELEC controls,” ani Jimenez.
Magugunitang sa kanyang State of the Nation Address (SONA) noong Lunes, nanawagan si Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na ipagpaliban ang May 2020 elections at gawin na lamang sa October 2022.
Layon anya nitong hayaan ang incumbent officials na matapos ang kanilang mga programa at proyekto.
Samantala, hangga’t hindi pa tuluyang naisasabatas ang pagpapaliban sa eleksyon, sinabi ni Jimenez na magpapatuloy ang kanilang paghahanda para rito.
Sa isang hiwalay na tweet, sinabi ni Jimenez na tuloy ang muling pagbubukas ng registration sa Agosto.
