Iceland umaasa na makikipag-tulungan ang Pilipinas sa imbestigasyon ng UN

Sa kabila ng banta ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na putulin ang diplomatikong ugnayan, umaasa pa rin ang Iceland na makikipagtulungan ang Pilipinas sa imbestigasyon ng United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) kaugnay ng sitwasyon ng human rights sa bansa kabilang ang patayan sa gitna ng drug war.

Ayon sa Icelandic Ministry for Foreign Affairs, umaasa ang kanilang mga opisyal na ang mga otoridad sa Pilipinas ay makikipag-cooperate sa UN kaugnay ng kanilang resolusyon.

“Icelandic authorities sincerely hope that the Philippine authorities will engage the UN on this and the resolution,” pahayag ng Icelandic Ministry for Foreign Affairs.

Ayon sa naturang tanggapan, mahalaga sa Iceland ang international law at multi-lateral system kasabay ng pangako nito na tugunan ang isyu ukol sa karapatang pantao.

“For a small and peaceful country like Iceland, international law and the multilateral system is our sword, shield and shelter. Therefore, when Iceland became a new member of the Council last year, Iceland pledged to address human rights concerns objectively and, on their merits, in a non-politicized, non-selective manner.”

Base sa pahayag, iginiit ni Iceland Foreign Minister Gudlaugur Thordarson na dapat ay magsilbing ehemplo ang mga miyembro ng UNHRC gaya ng Pilipinas, igalang ang human rights at papanagutin ang gobyerno kung kinakailangan.

Labing-walong bansa ang pumabor sa Iceland resolution na imbestigahan ang kampanya kontra droga sa Pilipinas kabilang ang umanoy extra-judicial killings.

Una rito ay binatikos ni Pangulong Duterte ang Iceland na anyay walang alam sa problema sa droga sa Pilipinas at ang alam lamang umano ng mga taga-Iceland ay kumain ng ice o yelo.
