Ayon kay IMF Director Christine Lagarde, ang kaniyang pasya ay kasunod ng nominasyon para maging pinuno ng European Central Bank.
Ayon kay Lagarde, sa Sept. 12 magiging epektibo ang pagbibitiw niya sa IMF.
Sa ngayon ay gumagawa na ng hakbang ang executive board ng IMF para makapili ng magiging bagong direktor.
