Pinasinayaan o binuksan na araw ng Lunes ang passenger terminal sa Port of Cagayan de Oro, ang ikinukunsiderang pinakamalaking pantalan sa buong bansa.
Ayon sa Department of Transportation (DOTr), ang gusali na nasa loob ng Passenger Terminal Complex ng CDO port ay isang malaking dalawang-palapag na istraktura na may kabuuang lawak na 5,597 square meters.
Ang bagong terminal ay may capacity na 3,000 pasahero na triple sa dati nitong kapasidad.
Pinangunahan ni Transportation Sec. Athur Tugade ang inagurasyon kasama sina Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) General Manager Jay Santiago at PPA Port Manager for Misamis Oriental/Cagayan de Oro Isidro Butaslac Jr.
Ayon kay Tugade, ang istraktura ng pinakamalaki ng passenger terminal building sa buong bansa.
Matutupad anya ng gusali ang nais ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na magkaroon ng koneksyon sa pagitan ng Visayas at Mindanao.
“I have inaugurated many terminals during our term, and the truth is, this is the biggest passenger terminal building in the Republic of the Philippines. This project will fulfill the President’s wish of achieving mobility and connectivity between the Visayas and Mindanao. With this terminal, you will have a convergence of people for mobility that will lead to economic growth,” pahayag ng Kalihim.
Ang bagong passenger terminal building ay inaasahang magpapa-igting sa kaligtasan at seguridad ng mga pasahero.
Kabilang sa istraktura ang security checkpoints na may x-ray scanners for baggage, body scanners, CCTV, passenger boarding stations, collector’s booth, public assistance desk, designation green areas, storage rooms at mga opisina.
Mayroon din itong mga amenities hindi lamang sa general public kundi partikular sa mga senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PWD), buntis, mga bata, at magulang na may kasamang bata edad 2 anyos pababa.
