CBCP maghahalal ng mga bagong opisyal

Nakatakdang maghalal ng mga bagong opisyal ang Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) sa tatlong araw na biannual plenary assembly na magsisimula na ngayong Sabado, July 6.

Ayon kay CBCP Secretary General Fr. Marvin Mejia, maghahalal ang kapulungan ng mga obispo ng presidente, bise presidente, siyam na regional representatives at 29 na commission and committee chairs.

Kasalukuyang presidente at bise presidente ng CBCP sina Davao Archbishop Romulo Valles at Kalookan Bishop Pablo Virgilio David.

Kadalasang na re-reelect ang incumbent officials para sa ikalawa at huling termino.

Sina David at Valles ay nasa unang termino pa lamang.

Dahil dito, sinabi ni Mejia na may posibilidad na manatiling presidente at bise presidente sina Valles at David.

“There is that possibility that they get re-elected because, based on the rules, they can have two terms. Therefore, they are still eligible,” ani Mejia sa panayam ng CBCP News.

Magaganap ang isang closed-door meeting sa Pope Pius XII Catholic Center sa Maynila na susundan ng retreat ng mga obispo sa St. Paul Renewal Retreat House sa Alfonso, Cavite.

Tatalakayin sa plenary assembly ang magiging agenda ng CBCP sa susunod na dalawang taon at kasama na rito ang mga programa para sa ika-500 anibersaryo ng Kristiyanismo sa bansa sa 2021.
