Medical coverage para sa mga HIV patient, ipinag-utos ng IC

Inatasan ng Insurance Commission (IC) ang mga health maintenance organizations (HMOs) na magbigay ng medical coverage sa mga apektado ng human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).

Base ito sa inilabas na Circular Letter No. 2019-30 ni Insurance Commissioner Dennis Funa noong June 21 sa ilalim ng Republic Act (RA) No. 11166, o ang Philippine HIV and AIDS Policy Act.

Sa ilalim ng utos na dapat gumawa ng mga polisiya na masisiguro na sumusunod ang mga kumpanya sa Section 42 of RA 11166 na walang sino mang may HIV ang hindi mabibigyan ng benepisyo mula sa mga HMO.

Ayon sa IC, dapat bigyan ng medical coverage ang mga may HIV na sumasailalim sa maayos na medical treatment at ang resulta ng medical examination na kailangan ng HMO ay nasa normal na hangganan.

Ngunit ang mga nais kumuha ng HMO ay dapat sumailalim sa HIV test ayon sa IC.
