Pangulong Duterte, dismayado sa pagkaantala ng code of conduct sa South China Sea
Inihayag ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte sa 34th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) Summit ang pagkadismaya sa pagkaantala sa pagbubuo ng Code of Conduct (COC) sa South China Sea.
Sa inilabas na pahayag, sinabi ni Presidential spokesman Salvador Panelo na ipinaliwanag ng pangulo na mas mataas ang tyansa na magkaroon ng maritime incidents at miscalculation kung patuloy na maaantala ang implementasyon ng COC.
“The Chief Executive explained that the longer the delay for an early conclusion of the COC, the higher the probability of maritime incidents happening and the greater the chance for miscalculations that may spiral out of control,” pahayag ni Panelo.
Makatutulong aniya ang COC na maiwasan ang anumang tensyon sa mga pinag-aagawang teritoryo sa South China Sea.
Nagsisilbi ang Pilipinas bilang coordinator ng ASEAN-China dialogue partnership mula 2018 hanggang 2021 kung saan kabilang ang negosasyon sa COC.
Kasunod nito, ipagpapatuloy aniya ng Pilipinas na itulak ang pagbuo at implemenasyon ng 2002 Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea.
Hinikayat naman aniya ng pangulo ang ASEAN leader na panatilihin ang pagkakaisa sa pagbibigay-proteksyon sa international law.
Dagdag pa ni Panelo, ipinarating ng pangulo ang suporta ng Pilipinas sa pag-adopt sa ASEAN Outlook sa Indo-Pacific para sa strategic role ng ASEAN countries at malapit na relasyon ng Asia-Pacific and Indian Ocean regions.
“He expressed his support for the Philippines to adopt the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific to reaffirm ASEAN’s strategic role and the vision of a closely integrated Asia-Pacific and Indian Ocean regions,” ani Panelo.
