Tinanggap na ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte ang alok ng China na joint investigation kaugany sa June 9 Recto Bank incident na kinasasangkutan ng mga fishing boats ng China at mga mangingisdang Pinoy.
Sinabi ni Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo na tinanggap ni Duterte ang alok para lumabas ang katotohanan sa nasabing pangyayari.
“To this end, the President wants the creation of a joint investigating committee that shall be composed of three groups of highly qualified and competent individuals, with Philippines and China having one representative each, and a third member coming from a neutral country,” ayon kay Panelo.
Sa pamamagitan ng joint probe ay maiiwasan ang iba’t ibang espekulasyon paliwanag pa ng kalihim.
Ayon pa kay Panelo, “A joint and impartial investigation will not only promote the expedient resolution of the issue, it will also be in accordance with international law, including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), which places paramount emphasis on the use of peaceful means to resolve international disputes.”
Nauna dito ay sinabi ni Foreign Affairs Sec. Teodoro Locsin na tutol siya sa anumang uri ng joint probe sa isyu.
Mas marapat umanong hintayin na lamang ang resulta ng ginagawang imbestigasyon ng Philippine Coast Guard sa pangyayari.
