Pagbilis ng inflation sa buwan ng Mayo isinisi ng NEDA sa El Niño
Isinisi ng National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) sa El Niño phenomenon ang pagtaas ng inflation rate para sa buwan ng Mayo.
Ayon sa ulat ng Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), pumalo sa 3.2 percent ang inflation rate noong Mayo kumpara sa 3.0 percent noong Abril.
Sa isang pahayag, sinabi ni Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Ernesto Pernia na ang bilis ng pagtaas sa presyo ng mga produkto ay dahil sa El Niño na nagdulot ng pinsala sa sektor ng agrikultura sa gitna ng mataas na demand sa nagdaang election period.
“Faster price adjustments in food and non-alcoholic beverages drove the uptick in headline inflation as weak El Niño conditions persisted, and brought significant damage to the agriculture sector in the midst of the election period’s strong consumption demand,” ani Pernia.
Iginiit ng kalihim na ang El Niño ay isang problemang nauulit at dapat mayroong mabilisan at pangmatagalang solusyon para rito.
“El Niño is a recurring problem that requires an immediate and long-term response,” dagdag ng kalihim.
Dapat anyang may mas konkretong solusyon ang bansa sa epekto ng weather conditions at climate change lalo’t ang Pilipinas ay suki ng mga sakuna.
Noong Abril nauna nang sinabi ng Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) na posibleng tumaas ang inflation rate dahil sa El Niño at pagtaas ng presyo ng imported na langis.
Samantala, sinabi ni Pernia na may posibilidad pang bumilis ang inflation dahil sa ban sa importasyon ng pork products mula sa mga bansang may African Swine Fever (ASF).
